City & Guilds 2922‑34
Open book, paper copies
Aim for 23 of 30: 22 of 30 is under 75%.
Paper copies only. Check with your centre which edition of BS 7671 you may take in. The PV-specific requirements in Section 712 did not change in A4.
A calculator is allowed (non-programmable scientific).
You must also pass the unit 302 practical assignment, set by City & Guilds and marked at an approved centre. This course teaches the knowledge behind it; it can’t deliver or mark it.
City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Small Solar Photovoltaic Systems (2922‑34), Ofqual 610/4841/0. RegsReady is independent and isn’t affiliated with City & Guilds.
Example lesson screen: “How the 2922-34 knowledge test and practical work”, a free lesson, opening with the route to the regulation in your book.
Read this lesson freeShort, practical lessons with the route to every regulation they use.
Example practice screen: an exam-style question answered correctly, with the explanation, the regulation and the route through your book.
Every answer explained, with the regulation and where it is in your book.
Example “Find it in your book” drill: a question with no options, a 90-second clock and three ways to rate how you got on.
The question without options: find it in your own copy against the clock.
Example mock exam screen: question 12 of 30, 9 answered and 2 flagged, with 51 min left.
The real format: 30 questions in 1 hour, spread like the City & Guilds test.
Example mock result: 26 out of 30, 87%, a pass, in a rating plate framed by the green-and-yellow earth stripe.
Your score by module, with every question explained, so you know what to fix.
City & Guilds publishes how many of the 30 questions come from each learning outcome. Every module is mapped to them, so each tab is as long as its share of the test and every full mock follows the same split. Modules marked “Practical only” teach the knowledge behind what your centre assesses.

How the 30‑question unit 301 test and the unit 302 practical work, using the IET PV Code and BS 7671 in the exam, the calculations you must be able to do, and a two-week study plan.
Which laws apply to PV and battery work, and how BS 7671, the IET Codes of Practice, PAS 63100, RC62, MCS and the ENA engineering recommendations fit together.
Why PV is always live and current-limited, arc risk, risk assessments and method statements for roof work, and safe isolation of a PV system. Assessed in the practical, not the online test.
Cells and module types, standard test conditions and datasheet symbols, the IV curve, bypass diodes, reverse current and PID, inverters, metering and array architectures.
Pitch, orientation and shading, the MGD 005 shade method, kWh = kWp × Kk × SF, fitting the array to the roof, and G98, G99 and G100.
The 1.2 and 1.25 multipliers, series and parallel strings, the string-fuse rule, gPV fuses and DC breakers, isolation and connectors, DC cables, earth-fault monitoring and Section 712 DC-side protection.
Inverter sizing and siting, AC isolation with bidirectional devices, voltage drop, RCD type, overcurrent with parallel generation, the G99 relay, and every label and notice.
Initial verification under BS 7671 plus BS EN 62446-1, the DC tests, handover and maintenance. Assessed in the practical, not the online test.
PEIs, EEMS and island mode, self-consumption, time shifting, arbitrage and V2X, adding a battery (including the A4 Chapter 57 changes), and export limitation with G100.
The whole paper 30 questions
City & Guilds publishes how many questions come from each learning outcome. Where an outcome spans several modules, the split between them is ours.
Each paper is spread across the learning outcomes like the real 2922‑34 test. The strip on each card is that paper, one block per question.
