While checking Table 51 for an installation that includes IT equipment, a learner sees a conductor function identified by the colour pink. Which conductor is it?

    Show the answer

    Answer B: Functional earthing conductor

Amendment 2 allocated pink in Table 51 to the functional earthing conductor. Functional earthing serves purposes other than electrical safety, so it is kept visually distinct from green-and-yellow protective conductors. A PEN conductor is identified using green-and-yellow and blue in combination, not pink.

When looking up Regulation 701.411.3.3, what does the '411.3.3' part of the number tell you?

    Show the answer

Answer C: It shows the regulation supplements or modifies general Regulation 411.3.3

Part 7 regulations are numbered 7xx.yyy, where 7xx is the section (701 is bathrooms) and yyy mirrors the general regulation being supplemented or modified. 701.411.3.3 therefore relates to 411.3.3, additional protection by RCD. Knowing this lets you move quickly between the general rule and the special-location rule.

An electrician is working out the maximum demand of a small office installation. What does 311.1 allow them to take into account when doing so?

    Show the answer

    Answer A: Diversity between loads

311.1 requires the maximum demand to be determined and permits diversity to be taken into account, recognising that not every load runs at full rating at the same time. The other options are supply or test values, not factors in assessing demand.
